The Pilot Nobody Wants to Talk About

I've reviewed roughly 180 vendor deliverables in the past three years. About 40 of them involved enterprise deployments built on Meta Quest headsets. Six of those made it past the first year without getting shelved.

I've only believed the "test small first" advice after ignoring it once and watching that exact conversation happen two quarters later. It was a $40,000 lesson in buying 40 units before buying 8.

And there's a compliance layer here too. Per FTC advertising guidelines (ftc.gov), any wellness claim you put in front of employees has to be substantiated. "This app improves cardiovascular health" needs evidence. I see supplier decks with that claim every month, and I reject most of them, because the "evidence" is a 12-person, two-week internal study that the supplier ran themselves.

So What Actually Works

The fix is short. It's not a secret. It's just boring, which is why most teams skip it.
